"Online Interviews for the Art Scene" - Rheinische Post

Artikel Rheinische Post über Ekaterina Moré

Ekaterina Moré developed a new project during the lockdown. She interviews fellow artists and uploads the conversations online. With this, she aims to promote exchange and broaden horizons.

Ekaterina Moré would actually be enjoying making art enthusiasts happy in exhibition spaces with her storytelling pictures. But such art presentations have also been made impossible by the lockdown. "I used the Corona period to create a new cool project," explains the Meerbusch-based artist. To present the work of various artists living in Europe during this complicated time, she offers them a platform for their own thoughts and artistic exchange: "I conduct interviews with them, which can be seen on YouTube."

Ekaterina Moré started with artists whose work she has known for several years: "It's important that they have their own style. I'm interested in the motivation that drives artists and also their attitude towards their own work." Ekaterina Moré, who grew up in an artistically ambitious family in St. Petersburg and has lived in Germany since 1996, reminds us that many artists come from difficult living conditions: "I admire the ability of these people to channel energy into something productive. This experience could also benefit people in all other professions."

On the other hand, she, who has also designed glass and porcelain collections for Rosenthal AG in addition to her colorful paintings with strong positive energy, and creates sculptures from steel and Plexiglas, has observed that at an opening, the artists' works often take a back seat: "Many visitors want to be seen themselves and participate in the event. I find that very regrettable. Because there are many great thoughts and interesting life philosophies behind the artworks."

In conversations from artist to artist, Ekaterina Moré makes such thoughts visible. During the relaxed conversations, a video is usually created on a smartphone during a Zoom recording: "I edit that later and insert some of the artist's works." Ekaterina Moré is not interested in the art style of her conversation partners – she wants to know what makes these creative people tick and, through this project, also overcomes her own camera-related anxieties. She wants to offer a discussion platform to artists, especially now: "Here they can share their thoughts with the world." After all, the art scene has been very unsettled since the first lockdown and the closure of museums and many galleries, and is wondering what life will look like after Corona.

Ekaterina Moré, who also benefits from the interviews as "horizon-expanding," has developed many ideas for new projects and is confident that art will continue: "We should always remember that there will be a time after Corona and we can do a lot to emerge from the crisis with more strength."
