Stadtkurier Neuss - "Indien: Zwischen Sklavin und Göttin"

The Stadtkurier Neuss published an article about my trip to India titled "India: Between Slave and Goddess" – an experience that profoundly touched and artistically inspired me.

For many years, I have dedicated my art to the theme "Woman in the Modern World," and in India, I experienced this femininity in a particularly intense field of tension: between tradition and change, beauty and danger, devotion and self-determination.

During my travels through the country, I met women from diverse walks of life – from self-confident entrepreneurs to women living in precarious conditions. This contrast deeply moved me. Through conversations, encounters, and snapshots, the feeling emerged that femininity in India is simultaneously revered and restricted – celebrated as a "goddess" yet often trapped in dependency.

"I am fascinated by how differently femininity is lived around the world – and how, despite cultural differences, it carries the same yearning for freedom, love, and dignity."

After my return, several paintings and studies were created, inspired by this journey. Their color palette became more intense, warmer – influenced by the vibrant tones of Indian fabrics, markets, and temples.

My India series depicts women who look beyond their cultural roles – proud, vulnerable, watchful, and dreaming all at once. These works are part of a larger artistic exploration of femininity: the tension between self-actualization and societal expectations.

The article in the Stadtkurier highlighted that my art gains an even deeper emotional dimension through such experiences. For each of my female portraits is also a dialogue – between cultures, between worlds, between inside and out.
